With a B.A from Illinois College, an M.A. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a PhD from Indiana University, McGuire is active in all realms of her discipline—teacher, scholar, and artist. As a professor of art history at Georgia Southern University, she has taught a variety of courses on modern and contemporary art such as 20th Century Art, Dada and Surrealism, and Contemporary Theory and Criticism in Art. As a scholar, she has published numerous articles and reviews on a wide range of topics that include performance art, art and technology, and art and popular culture. As a practicing artist, her mixed media installations and individual artworks have been exhibited in regional, national, and international venues—from the Woman Made Gallery in Chicago to Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates. McGuire resides in Statesboro, Georgia with her husband Tom Amettis and their two dogs Layla and Sparky.
